How to check if a Solana token's LP is locked (Raydium, Jupiter, Meteora)
November 5, 2026 · 4 min read · by the Rugsight team
"Liquidity locked" is the twin of "liquidity burned" in Solana token marketing. Both claim you cannot pull the pool. They are not the same thing on-chain, and a lock with a near unlock date is closer to a delay than a protection. This guide focuses on locked LP: how to tell a real locker escrow from a screenshot, which programs Rugsight verifies today, and what a lock still fails to stop.
For the broader burned / locked / held picture, start with how to check if a Solana token's liquidity is burned or locked. For mint and freeze authority, see that guide.
Burned vs locked
- Burned. LP tokens were destroyed or sent to an address nobody controls (for example the Solana incinerator). That share of the pool cannot be withdrawn. Fee claims on that share are usually gone too.
- Locked. LP tokens (or a position) sit in a locker program escrow. Until the lock ends, the deployer should not be able to withdraw. After it ends, they can. Some locks are permanent; some are cancellable by the lock creator.
Marketing often uses the words interchangeably. Explorers do not. You need the LP mint holders (or the locker's own UI) and the escrow program id.
What to ask for when a project says "LP locked"
- Which pool? Name the DEX and the pool address. Extra pools for the same mint do not inherit the lock.
- Which locker? Prefer named programs (Raydium Burn & Earn, Jupiter Lock, a Meteora lock escrow) over "our custom locker".
- What share of the pool? A lock of 10% of LP leaves 90% withdrawable.
- Unlock time? A cliff tomorrow is not the same as a permanent lock.
- Can the creator cancel? Some lockers allow the lock authority to reclaim early.
If they cannot answer those five, treat the claim as unverified.
How to check manually
1. Find the main pool and its LP mint
Open the token on DEX Screener or Birdeye. Note the highest-liquidity pool, its DEX, and its address. On an explorer, open that pool and find the LP mint (constant-product / CPMM-style pools). Concentrated pools (Raydium CLMM, Orca Whirlpool, Meteora DLMM, DAMM v2) use position NFTs instead of a single LP mint; locker claims for those need the DEX's own lock UI, not an LP-holder list.
2. Read the top LP holders
On the LP mint page, list the largest holders:
- Incinerator / burn address → burned, not locked.
- Ordinary wallet (especially the pool creator) → can withdraw.
- Program-owned escrow → possibly locked. Open the owner account and note its owner program id.
3. Match the program to a known locker
Three lockers Rugsight verifies by program id and (where needed) account layout:
| Locker | Typical meaning | Unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Raydium Burn & Earn | CPMM LP held by Raydium's lock authority | Permanent (fee claims may remain) |
| Jupiter Lock | Escrow under Jupiter Lock | Cliff time on the escrow; may be cancellable |
| Meteora DAMM v1 lock | DAMM v1 lock escrow | Permanent in the layouts we recognise |
If the program id is none of these, open the project's lock link and read the unlock and beneficiary yourself. Unknown lockers are not automatically "safe".
4. Check share, cliff and cancel rights
Add up LP in verified lockers and burns. Ask:
- Is ≥95% of the pool's LP burned, locked, or combined?
- For Jupiter Lock, is
cancelenabled? A cancellable lock is a soft promise. - Is the earliest unlock weeks away, or days?
A lock that covers half the pool while the other half sits in the deployer's wallet is only half a lock.
Red flags
- "Locked on Streamflow / Pinksale / …" with no pool address or lock URL.
- Lock UI shows a different mint or a tiny LP amount versus pool TVL.
- Unlock within days of launch, or a cancellable lock with the deployer as authority.
- Most volume on a second pool that was never locked.
- "Burned and locked" marketing when the explorer shows LP in a normal wallet.
What a lock does not protect against
Same limits as burned LP: the largest token holders can still sell into the pool, mint/freeze authority and Token-2022 extensions can still trap you, and bundled wallets can look diversified. Read why "top 10 holders" is often wrong on Solana before trusting a single concentration screenshot.
What Rugsight checks
Paste a mint into Rugsight or call GET /api/score/<mint>. On the main (highest-liquidity) pool, when LP is measurable, the free score includes a liquidityLock object (API v1.8.0+):
status:burned,locked,burned_or_locked,partly_burned,not_burned,unknown, or not-applicable variants (bonding curve; concentrated pools without an LP mint).burnedPct/lockedPctseparately when measurable.unlockAt: earliest unlock ISO timestamp when a timed lock is present; null for permanent locks we recognise.lockers[]: verified holdings labeled Raydium Burn & Earn, Jupiter Lock, or Meteora DAMM v1 lock, including cancellable when the Jupiter escrow says so.
Scoring: ≥95% burned lowers risk slightly; ≥95% locked (permanent, or unlocking ≥30 days out and not cancellable) also helps a little. Unknown is never penalised. Concentrated pools stay not_applicable_concentrated until there is a reliable public way to attribute positions without guessing.
The free token pages also show a holder-concentration preview. Fresh launches land on the /new feed every 30 minutes. Telegram: /check <mint> in @rugsight_bot.
